Topic 2
Creative solutions of finding opportunities in risks
Fears and risks issue
It is quite natural that in the conditions of growing uncertainty in the surrounding world, brought by covid and the war in Ukraine, the risks in entrepreneurship and business are also increasing. These risks can also cause personal fears. Fears are a signal from our feelings to our psyche about the need for safety and security. Do not ignore them. It is important to define them first. What exactly scares me? What am I afraid of? To find out which need is related to safety for you, and helps you feel safe, you can apply the "Toyota rule" - 5 consecutive questions "Why?" Moving on, from the first answer to the fifth, we get the essence of what is frightening. The answer may surprise you, because, for example, the fear of not being able to cope or losing money may be related to the need for closeness (love, recognition, etc.). The next step is to find a way to satisfy this need in another way. We think - where? with who? as? When? This is how we get points of support and become more subjective. Another way to deal with personal fears is to rely on your values and the world around you. To do this, we answer the following questions:
Why do I want to do this?
What exactly is important for me to give to the world?
What do I want more of in the world?
What is valuable to me in life?
What will the world, other people, gain when I do this?
That is, we shift our attention from ourselves to the world around us, look for meanings and determine values. Answers to these questions give support and fill with energy.
Risks in activity can befall us at every step. They can be divided into:general (political, ecological, natural, transport...) That is, these are risks associated with sudden changes in the environment that affect us. More often than not, in this case, an active attitude to challenges will be adjusting to the situation, eliminating the consequences, and adjusting the entire system taking into account the new conditions.
entrepreneurial (property, production, trade...) which may be the result of miscalculations in the strategy, or the result of the impact of general changes in the environment.
In 2013, Oxford University academics conducted a study that estimated that 47% of modern professions will be replaced by computers in the next 20 years. In January 2017, McKinsey and Company, a leader in private sector business consulting, published research data that 30% of tasks in 60% of professions can be automated already with today's technologies. Moreover, it is creative roles and creative problem solving that are a priority for the development of the future, because they cannot be automated. On the contrary, in a world where changes happen so quickly, where there is no certainty, and access to a huge amount of information is wide, there is a need to constantly create fundamentally new forms, approaches and solutions, a need for a creative approach both to conducting social entrepreneurship and to life in general.
Dealing with fears and risks
We offer to add a creative approach to the already known methods of risk assessment and their prevention. Paradoxical questions are suitable for this:
What is good about the fact that I will succeed?
What is wrong with the fact that I will not succeed?
What's wrong with the fact that everything will work out for me?
What will be good if I don't succeed?
You can replace the word "will work" with "will do", "think", etc. It changes the usual way of thinking. Paradox can also be used to approach risks, fears and develop a business strategy, which also promotes creative thinking, because the context expands.
Creative thinking in times of uncertainty is an opportunity to find non-standard original solutions, when risks do not become probable defeats, but possible options and new opportunities for development. That is, it is important that the creative approach transforms from a situational response to challenges to the main way of thinking and interacting in the world.
Afterwards we can look at all processes somewhat from above, and this will already prepare us for possible difficulties, and also, it is important, that a certain number of "plan Bs" will arise. This can sometimes help to highlight our true values, because if objectively it is not possible to solve the problem, then what will still be important to implement at this time. Therefore, the form of implementation of the result can be changed, relying already on those values that remain important, despite the difficulties. Then our initial idea of the result can be sifted through the prism of both our values and the reality of the surrounding world, so new forms of embodiment can appear, based on this contact of our values as a business and the real needs of society. Therefore, creativity itself is manifested both through the approach to solving problems when we generate them, and through the creation of space for all elements to manifest at the same time, because here both our conscious subjective approach and the reality of the environment and those global phenomena to which we are mostly objective. Cross section of our task, when there is tension, feeling and understanding of the meaning for us as a company and the meaning, why is it for the world - create a field for the meeting of our subjective part with the objective part, when we can no longer fight, but based on it create new forms of decisions.
A good way would be to return to the created scheme from time to time and update it, add new challenges that constantly appear and change in the modern world.
